Evelina Mamedovaite, an interior designer with a keen eye for creating liveable and refined spaces, transformed a classic Victorian terrace house in Kensal Rise, London, into a calm and cosy haven for brand consultant Charlotte Lewis and her family. The project, which began as a simple colour and concept consultation, evolved into a comprehensive renovation, addressing the house's lack of love and potential across three floors. Evelina's approach was meticulous, focusing on establishing a sense of flow and creating a space that could withstand the rigours of family life.
One of the key elements of the design is the use of soft neutrals and tactile materials, with a particular emphasis on creating a sense of flow between rooms. Evelina's attention to detail is evident in the way she mirrors joinery with simple shelves and uses the same edge detail in adjacent rooms, creating a cohesive and coherent space. The designer also paid close attention to hard fittings and finishes, including new doors, light switches, ironmongery, and flooring, ensuring a strong architectural base that stands strong even without decoration.
The palettes and schemes were guided by two principles: the house needed to evolve with the clients and their growing children, and there was to be nothing superfluous. Evelina's collaboration with Charlotte proved to be a perfect match, as they now count themselves as close friends. The designer's use of well-chosen antiques, such as a large oak refectory table and a large pressed metal mirror, adds character and a sense of history to the space.
Evelina's attention to softening crisp lines is evident in the kitchen and dining extension, where sheer linen skylight drapes provide shade and a soft contrast to the clean lines of the extension. In the main bedroom, off-white merino wool curtains and a slouchy bed throw create a relaxed atmosphere, providing a contrast to the clean lines of the jib doors that hide storage. The designer's playful approach is also evident in her daughter's bedroom, where the walls are wrapped in Colefax & Fowler's 'Fernwood Leaf Green', creating a fun and theatrical space.
Evelina's mark of a good project is one where you step over the threshold and feel relaxed. Charlotte, who now counts herself as a close friend of Evelina's, shares her love for the calm and cosy space, stating that it is a safe haven in the bustling city of London. Evelina's skill in creating a liveable and refined space is evident in this project, and her attention to detail and use of soft neutrals and tactile materials make it a truly inspiring and relaxing environment.
